Florida Female Nonprofit Execs Earn Less Than Male Counterparts: "Almost 70 percent of the people who run Northeast Florida nonprofits -- and most of their employees -- are women.

Corporate Philanthropy: Ally or Competitor? - NonProfit PRO

Corporate Philanthropy: Ally or Competitor? - NonProfit PRO: "In other words, corporations have figured out that they don’t necessarily need to partner with nonprofits to meet social responsibility goals. The stats bear this out. According to Giving in Numbers 2014, the number of companies providing pro bono service programs increased from 40 percent in 2012 to 51 percent in 2014. Ellinger cited AT&T’s “It Can Wait” distracted-driving campaign as an example. “They are doing many things a nonprofit would normally do—collecting petition signatures and pledges, distributing awareness materials, and providing programmatic tool-kits—without the nonprofit,” he explained."

Atlas of Giving Forecast: Charitable Giving Decline in 2016 - Top Nonprofits

Atlas of Giving Forecast: Charitable Giving Decline in 2016 - Top Nonprofits: "For fundraisers, it always helps to start a new year at full speed.

Instead, donors have moved into 2016 by hitting the brakes.

Our just-released Atlas of Giving forecast predicts a charitable giving decline in 2016. The downturn is already underway, with giving through February down 1.4% compared to the same period in 2015.

These early results were driven in large part by January giving numbers, which recorded the first monthly decline since the nation’s deep recession ended in June 2009. January’s decrease of 0.6% from December snapped a 63-month streak during which giving consistently rose on a monthly basis as the country experienced economic recovery."

The AFP Blog: The (Non)Impact of Political Campaigns on Charitable Fundraising: "The (Non)Impact of Political Campaigns on Charitable Fundraising
Some great new research came out last week from Blackbaud about how political giving impacts nonprofit support.

I was pleased to be able to write the forward for the report, which you can find here, but the findings bear repeating.

Using data from the 2012 presidential campaigns, the research found that political donors tracked by the Federal Election Commission gave more to charities in 2012 than they did in 2011."

Survey: Online Fundraising May Diminish Effectiveness of Supporter Communications | Nonprofit Quarterly delivers the latest news and investigative reports

Survey: Online Fundraising May Diminish Effectiveness of Supporter Communications | Nonprofit Quarterly delivers the latest news and investigative reports: "A small survey of 114 leaders of nonprofits with budgets between $100,000 and $200,000 finds that 43 percent of respondents view online fundraising as only “somewhat effective” relative to traditional direct mail, and 35 percent say it is “not particularly effective.” Only three percent see it as “highly effective,” even given the cost considerations.

While the survey is very small, those findings are fairly stark and may serve at least as anecdotal evidence to which we need to pay attention. The accounting firm Marks Paneth, which presumably has no dog directly in the fundraising game, conducted this Nonprofit Pulse survey. Respondents included executive directors, CFOs, treasurers, COOs, development directors, vice presidents and board members."

Diversity, inclusion enticing fundraisers to stay - The NonProfit TimesThe NonProfit Times: "Perhaps the most significant barrier to fostering diversity and inclusion in the charitable giving sector is the lack of information on the number of people from diverse communities who currently identify as fundraising practitioners. But, those found claim to be in it for the longer haul.

The issue of a diversity and inclusion census is one of the key items in the new “Diversity and Inclusion Survey Report,” which follows an October survey designed by the AFP Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the AFP Research Council."

There was an as much as 29 percent difference between the age groups when it came to wanting to be depended on.

These are some of the results from the 2016 Donor Loyalty Study released during the annual Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) conference in Boston by software firm Abila. They surveyed during February 1,136 donors in the United States who said that they made at least one donation during the previous 12 months."

Understanding families – How can charities engage with parents and their children? | nfpSynergy

Understanding families – How can charities engage with parents and their children? | nfpSynergy: "ur findings have revealed some interesting dynamics within the family unit, underscoring why the family is such a valuable audience for many charities. In this blog, I’ll take you through a few of the things we’ve learned.

Families like to share their enthusiasm for charities

In the past we’ve talked a lot about ‘pester power’ – the influence children exert on their parents to support charities. Now that we can link the responses of children to their parents (and vice versa), we can see that this influence goes both ways in the family."

The Mobile Frontier: Create Frictionless Content and Help Members Engage

The Mobile Frontier: Create Frictionless Content and Help Members Engage: "Engagement -- it’s that golden word everyone talks about and one important sign of a healthy community. Part of creating member engagement -- discussions, content creation, connections -- is removing all the barriers you can. For optimal engagement, it’s important that there’s as little friction as possible, which isn’t as hard as you’d think.

Beyond being a buzzword and a broad concept, engagement does actually affect your community’s bottom line. In our 2015 Community Benchmarking Report we looked at data from 80 organizations with online communities, and compared those overall averages and medians from MGI’s 2015 Membership Marketing Benchmarking Report."

Can Big Nonprofits Get Big Results? | Stanford Social Innovation Review

Can Big Nonprofits Get Big Results? | Stanford Social Innovation Review: "Our study of more than a score of longstanding networks showed that it takes courageous leaders to pause in the midst of doing good and ask: Can we do even better? And it takes compelling demographic and performance data to convince a far-flung staff that the good they are doing today may not be life-changing for individuals and communities at the heart of their mission. Yet some of these venerable organizations are doing just that and altering course, shifting from serving immediate needs to solving underlying problems, thanks to their willingness to act on data that show their constituents’ needs have, indeed, changed."

The Generational Echo: ’60s Kids Causing New “Boom” in Nonprofits | Nonprofit Quarterly

The Generational Echo: ’60s Kids Causing New “Boom” in Nonprofits | Nonprofit Quarterly: "A 2015 study published by Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in partnership with consulting group Age Wave specifically credits baby boomers with donating $8 trillion ($6.6 trillion in cash and $1.4 trillion in volunteer hours) over the course of the next two decades, a pleasantly astonishing figure the Nonprofit Quarterly wrote about soon after the study was released last October. However, that yearning to support a wide array of causes doesn’t just stop at dollar signs and pro bono labor. Boomers are also embarking on second wave careers as founders of their own nonprofit organizations, post-retirement. Data shows that interest among individuals between the age of 50 and 70 in building a nonprofit from the ground up has nearly doubled since 2012."

The AFP Blog: The Research is Clear: Invest in Donor Retention and Cultivation: "The Research is Clear: Invest in Donor Retention and Cultivation
There’s more great research out now from the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, delving deeper into statistics on donor retention.

The data in the new FEP supplement points to an inescapable fact: we have to focus on donor cultivation and major gifts. An ever-increasing proportion of fundraising revenue is coming from an increasingly smaller pool of donors. And as the FEP data shows, we’re not necessarily talking “major” donors, but individuals who give $250 or more. "

The New Professional Norm: 10+ Million Professionals on LinkedIn Make Social Impact Part of Their Identity [INFOGRAPHIC] | Official LinkedIn Blog

The New Professional Norm: 10+ Million Professionals on LinkedIn Make Social Impact Part of Their Identity [INFOGRAPHIC] | Official LinkedIn Blog: "A new professional norm

And our data reflects this. Just over three years ago, we added the “Volunteer and Causes” section to the LinkedIn profile. We know that volunteer experience is tightly entwined with one’s professional identity – in fact, this had been one of the most requested product features from LinkedIn members. So it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that there are now over 10 million professionals who have added the Volunteer Experience and Causes section to their LinkedIn profiles – sharing the incredible work they’ve done and highlighting the causes and organizations they care most about. That’s up from three million just a year ago. To put that in perspective, 4.5 million of these professionals are in the U.S. where there are approximately 1.5 million nonprofits – meaning there are 3 professionals who want to help to every single nonprofit.

In addition, more than 4 million members have gone a step further in making a meaningful difference by signaling that they are interested in skilled volunteer work or joining a nonprofit board."

Charity in the Checkout Line | CAF America

Charity in the Checkout Line | CAF America: "A recent study conducted by the Good Scout Group found that 71% of consumers surveyed have participated in a charity at checkout program. This success rate has ensured that, despite the fact that 66% of donors give less than $2, such programs can still raise an incredibly impactful amount of money. In their most recent exploration of point of sale donations, the Cause Marketing Forum found that the 63 largest corporations who participated in these campaigns raised $358 million in 2012. There are promising signs in the Good Scout Group’s study that this figure can continue to grow. Of respondents who recall the last charity they supported at the register 79% felt more positively about that charity, a strong indication that they would be likely to support that organization again in the future. Additionally, 60% of consumers felt more positively about retailers who participated in such programs, making them more likely to remain loyal to those brands moving forward. Charity in the checkout line presents itself as a win-win for both charities and retail corporations."
