The Boston Club, a premier organization of women executives and professionals promoting the advancement of women to significant and visible leadership roles, has taken notice of the major role nonprofits play in the economy and conducted the first ever Census of Women Directors and Chief Executives of Massachuetts’ Largest Nonprofit Organizations to see how nonprofits stack up. Nonprofits generate $234 billion in revenues and nonprofit jobs represented 16.7% of the total employment in Massachusetts in 2010.

Arts and culture sector has key role in UK economy, finds report: The Arts Council England has today published its first analysis of the value of arts and culture to the national economy, finding that the sector has a turnover of �12.8bn.

The report, which was carried out by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), finds that arts and culture make up 0.4 per cent of GDP – with a turnover of �12.8bn per annum.

The arts and culture industry employed, on average, 110,600 full-time employees in the UK from 2008 to 2011, representing about 0.45 per cent of total employment in the UK. Further, the sector pays nearly five per cent more than the UK median salary of �26,095.

Giving grows 7% in 1st quarter � Philanthropy North Carolina: Charitable giving totaled $97.26 billion in the first three months of 2013, up 7.1 percent from the same period a year earlier, and is expected to total $383.15 billion for the year, up 3.9 percent from 2012, a new report says.

That would mark a decline in growth from 6.7 percent in 2012, says the Atlas of Giving.

How Local Events Shake Up Corporate Philanthropy — HBS Working Knowledge: A recent research paper shows that enormous events like the Olympics lead to a dramatic, albeit relatively short-term increase in otherwise steady charitable-giving patterns among firms that are headquartered in the event's host city. Natural disasters also have a strong effect on firms' giving patterns, according to the study Punctuated Generosity: How Mega-events and Natural Disasters Affect Corporate Philanthropy in US Communities, which was published in the March issue of Administrative Science Quarterly.
