Charity Commission report shows ‘charities often overstate governance costs’: "A report published by the Charity Commission has shown that many charities may “often overstate governance costs” in their public annual returns or accounts.
The report, published today by the Charity Commission as part of its Accounts Monitoring Review, identified 76 charities with incomes of over £500,000 that appeared to have high governance costs of more than 20 per cent of total expenditure."

Majority of mergers driven by financial distress, according to research: "Less than 0.01 per cent of charities merged last year but the majority of those that did were driven by financial distress, the 2015 Good Mergers Index has revealed.
Some 53 per cent of merging organisations made losses in the year before their merger, while charities that were subject to the biggest local authority cuts were “merger hotspots”, according to the report by Eastside Primetimers, a consultancy which specialises in sector mergers. They included health and social care charities, which acocunted for 43 per cent of all deals."

The Blackbaud Index debuts new specialty index focused on giving to foundations
Charleston, S.C. (August 3, 2015) – Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB) today updated The Blackbaud Index with charitable giving trends through June 2015, as well as announced the addition of a new foundation specialty index that tracks revenue from giving to foundations.
Based on data from 5,170 charities that raised more than $17 billion in the prior 12 months, The Blackbaud Index reported that overall charitable giving decreased 0.5 percent for the three months ending June 2015, compared to the same period a year earlier.
Among 3,786 charities that raised over $2 billion online in the prior 12 months, online giving grew 13.8 percent in the same three-month period, compared to the same period a year earlier."

The Blackbaud Index debuts new specialty index focused on giving to foundations
Charleston, S.C. (August 3, 2015) – Blackbaud, Inc. (NASDAQ: BLKB) today updated The Blackbaud Index with charitable giving trends through June 2015, as well as announced the addition of a new foundation specialty index that tracks revenue from giving to foundations.
Based on data from 5,170 charities that raised more than $17 billion in the prior 12 months, The Blackbaud Index reported that overall charitable giving decreased 0.5 percent for the three months ending June 2015, compared to the same period a year earlier.
Among 3,786 charities that raised over $2 billion online in the prior 12 months, online giving grew 13.8 percent in the same three-month period, compared to the same period a year earlier."

Nonprofit Employment Actually Grew During The Recession: Report: "Nonprofits are becoming an increasingly vital aspect of the American economy, new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows.
For the first time, the bureau has released jobs data regarding charitable organizations, as Trib Live Media reported. It found nonprofit employment, standing at 11.4 million jobs in 2012, is the third largest by sector when compared to all industries in the U.S. It comprised 10.3 percent of all non-government jobs."
