Survey Shows Donor Retention Still Undervalued by Nonprofits: It was a disappointment to read in Kivi Leroux Miller's 2014 Nonprofit Communications Trends Report that donor retention is still not highly valued by many people working at nonprofits.

The Report states:

"Donor retention continues to be a hot topic . . . But are nonprofits doing more than talking about it? In our 2013 report, acquisition beat retention as a goal by nearly 2 to 1. In 2014, the number of nonprofits selecting retention as a top three goal held steady at 30%, while acquisition as a top three goal fell from 57% to 53%."

The Blackbaud Index today reported that overall charitable giving to nonprofits increased 4.6% and online giving increased 9.4% for the three months ending November 2013 as compared to the same period in 2012. The full-year results for 2013 will be reported in February.

More corporate support heading Down Under | Fundraising & Philanthropy Australasia Magazine: New research has revealed American companies plan to up their overseas corporate giving and 70% are donating to the Asia-Pacific region, Liz Henderson discovers.

Of the large American companies that give overseas, 86% plan to either maintain or increase their giving in the next financial year and 70% have a funding focus in Asia and the Pacific region.

These findings were revealed in Giving Beyond Borders: A Study of Global Giving by US Corporations, a report from Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy which looked at the corporate philanthropy of the top 100 companies on the 2012 Fortune 500 list.

In 2011-2013, Russians made 98 donations worth a total of more than half a billion dollars, according to the British bank’s Million Dollar Donors Report, which tracks donations of $1 million or more by individuals or foundations. Corporate philanthropy isn’t included in the survey.

UK venture philanthropy market doubles to �166m: The value of venture philanthropy grants, loans and investments in the UK has more than doubled in two years, to reach a total value of �166m, according to new research.

Research and fundraising consultancy Factary revealed in its report that there is now twice as many players in the local venture philanthropy market as there were two years ago, when it last produced a survey of venture philanthropy in the UK. Total income is also up 171 per cent at �274.4m. New entrants had a total income of �92.9m in 2012 so make up a large percentage of this figure.
