Young, Gifted &…a Charity Trustee? Results from a survey about youth & trusteeship | one swallow makes a summer

Young, Gifted &…a Charity Trustee? Results from a survey about youth & trusteeship | one swallow makes a summer: Conducted on a voluntary basis on behalf of Young Charity Trustees (YCT) between July 15th and 23rd this year by myself, Nicholas Fryer, for a Charityworks graduate programme assignment, this blog post showcases the survey’s results.

Young people are a rare sight on charity boards in England and Wales, with 16-24s accounting for just 0.5% of trustees, according to the Charity Commission report A Breath of Fresh Air (2010), posing serious questions about diversity and representativeness. What is more, a Governance Hub and OPM 2006 survey of English trustees and charities suggested that almost half of charities had difficulty filling trustee roles.[1]

ASAE is launching the first Diversity Inclusion (D I) tool for associations, called the Association Inclusion Index, in late April. The index is an online, interactive, multiple choice survey about D I policies, philosophies, and practices that offers associations strategies and solutions (not scores) for inclusive excellence. It will focus on five key D I domains in associations, which are: Mission and Focus, Roles and Leadership Accountability, Resources, Operations, and Communication and Culture.

The Association Inclusion Index will launch on April 22.

Number of women trustees at the largest UK charities rises - Civil Society - Governance - News - providing news and in-depth coverage of charities, voluntary organisations and not-for-profits: Charity 100 Index boards include increasing numbers of women, but they are falling short in other areas of diversity, according to the Trustee Leadership of the Largest 100 Charities survey published this month.

The survey, which is in its third year, is a biennial look into the make-up of trustee boards on the Charity 100 Index, which tracks income levels of the largest 100 charities in the UK.
