Are they charitable nonprofits? - Cleveland Business News - Northeast Ohio and Cleveland - Crain's Cleveland Business: "In a 2014 research paper called “Trickle Down Charity,” the Case Western Reserve University law professor argues that many economic development groups should not be able to qualify as 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
That means they're considered charities in the eyes of the Internal Revenue Service, which allows them to receive tax-deductible donations. "

Penn State Harrisburg professor's research aids nonprofits | Penn State University: "While most charities posted their mission statement and purpose on their websites, only 27 percent described the outcomes of their efforts and 18 percent related success stories. Few of the organizations interactively engaged with their stakeholders online.
The researchers’ most recent work hones in on the reasons charitable organizations do not disclose that information in an easy to find format. By law, nonprofits have to disclose certain financial information when asked."

[DATA] The 2015 State of Major Gift Fundraising: "It’s not a stretch by any means to say that major gift fundraising is an art and a science. Researching, cultivating and asking (and asking and asking) prospects is a tough gig – even when it’s your only responsibility, which it seldom is.
We wanted to know how fundraisers approach major gifts, so we asked our friends and followers. You can view the results of our non-scientific (but fun!) survey below."

Is Grantmaking Getting Smarter?: An Update - PhilanTopic | PND | Foundation Center: "Over the past fifteen years, research by Grantmakers for Effective Organizations has demonstrated that certain grantmaking practices support nonprofits' capacity to achieve results. To track how these practices are changing, GEO conducts a national survey of staffed grantmaking organizations every three years. As we prepared to release the results of our most recent survey, I wondered: How would experts in nonprofit management interpret the results? To find out, I asked CompassPoint CEO Jeanne Bell, co-author of the reports Daring to Lead and Underdeveloped: A National Study of Challenges Facing Nonprofit Fundraising, and Don Crocker, executive director and CEO of the Support Center, which advises nonprofits and foundations in the areas of leadership and executive transitions, board performance, and nonprofit/foundation effectiveness, to share their thoughts on our key findings as well as how funders can best support nonprofits to achieve more impact."
