The survey was designed to help identify core challenges and solutions related to pro bono services and skills-based volunteering.

Giving donors control over comms reduces retention, finds survey - Civil Society - Fundraising - News - providing news and in-depth coverage of charities, voluntary organisations and not-for-profits: Allowing donors to choose how a charity communicates with them has a negative effect on donor retention, according to an annual report on face-to-face fundraising.

Charities increased the amount of contact they had with donors signed up via face-to-face fundraising in 2010, but the researchers behind the annual Donor Acquisition and Retention Survey (DARS) warn that allowing donors to choose how they are communicated with at the outset reduces the retention rate by 3.5 percentage points over five years.

75% of Young Adults Gave to Charity Last Year, Study Finds - News - The Chronicle of Philanthropy- Connecting the nonprofit world with news, jobs, and ideas: About 75 percent of young people who provided data for the 2012 Millennial Impact Report said they gave money to a nonprofit in 2011, while 70 percent said they have helped solicit donations by encouraging colleagues and others to support a cause.

Dangerous cuts are putting vulnerable people at risk: A new British Red Cross study shows that elderly and vulnerable people are being put at risk by swingeing cuts to home-based care.

The survey – held among both GPs and the general public – highlights concerns that a lack of support for people in their own homes is having a negative impact. This can include increasing isolation among older people, more falls and accidents, and growing pressures on hospital beds.

Third of small charities can't cope with volunteer demand, survey finds - Civil Society - Fundraising - News - providing news and in-depth coverage of charities, voluntary organisations and not-for-profits: More than half of English and Welsh small to medium-sized charities have seen interest in volunteering rise, but nearly a third are unable to cope with the demand, a survey has revealed.

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, which surveyed 660 charities, has found that 56 per cent have seen interest in volunteering opportunities increase, with medium-sized charities with incomes of between �101,000 and �300,000 receiving the greatest level of interest.

Almost a third of people expect to give less to charity in spontaneous donations this year, a new survey suggests.

The poll of more than 2,000 UK adults, carried out by Wriglesworth Research for the financial services group Foresters, found that 29 per cent of respondents said they would have to reduce the amount they give because they were worse off than last year.
